AVA BRANDING

Theme board for my denim branding project

These are some idea's I have drafted for buttons, swing tags, logo's and stamps. The next step is to introduce colour to my ideas to identify the sub brands.

Barcelona.

Last month I decided to book a last minute trip to Barcelona in search of some inspiration. I stayed in the centre of Barcelona in Equity Point Hostel, in a 12 bed room where I made friends with an american girl and a Mexican couple. They had already been there a few days before my arrival, so I was given a basic tour. However the point of the trip was to through myself in the deep end and do some exploring alone.

During my stay there I tried to hit as many tourist sights as I could. My favourite place I discovered was a recycled market hiden away in a court yard.

A close second was 'St. Josep La Boqueria'. This was another market which sold fresh food, smoothies, handmade sweets and ice cream. Although everything there was cheap, I could have spent every penny I had in there.

The architechure in Barcelona has to be some of the beautifulest I have seen, even beats the Town hall in Middlesbrough (tough competition).

The highlight of the hoilday had to be a toss up between the price of the vodka and my pretty woman moment in the Miu Miu store, 100% browsing and zero buying. I dont think my mosher attire  was appericated by the sales assistants either, 'you win some...'

The Smoke.

I booked a last minute 4 day trip to London to see some friends and visit some galleries. however, shortly after arrival I caught a sickness bug and was unable to do any of the wonderful things I have planned. The lamp shade above was the most interesting thing I seen all weekend.

TOILE TIME.

Haven't been successful on the ordering of my posts!! I'll nail this blog business, one day.

This is the toile for my denim jacket. the construction went swimmingly and there was only a few changes to be made. I made the fringing longer, I think the current length doesn't make a big enough statement.

I used a mens bodice block to create a oversized silhouette. However once the toile was made up the waist line was flattering for a female. I took some fabric out of the back and shaped it in the the back seams. On the front I added some tucks at the bottom of the front panels. This made the shape 'feminine friendly' (flattering bust shape, tapered back but still a boxy loose fit.) I also tuck some fabric out go the neck and played around with the collar shape till I was happy.

I have also got a construction break down that I will be posting at a later date.

I am still getting to grips with blogging, I am not technologies best friend. Heres my first attempt at a post.

Yesterday (05/03/12) was the photo shoot for my denim jacket. I am coming to the end of my denim project and thought it would be nice to have some imagery in my portfolio of the garment. It's not required in the unit but I feel it will have a successful impact on my portfolio.

I arranged to shoot myself with a guy I went to art college with. He is currently coming to the end of his degree and has been producing some amazing work, which naturally made me ask him to photograph the jacket. I told Richy what I wanted and how I wanted the jacket to look, from that we both just played around with different ideas till we found something that worked with Holly's look and the jacket.

This shoot was the easiest I've ever been on. Richy completely understood what I wanted and Holly was comfortable with everything I wanted to do. I am really excited for the next one :)

Once the photos have been edited I will be posting them as well. I am planning to make a small look book  to sit in my portfolio with the imagery.
